Aramark to go “cage-free” by 2020

PHILADELPHIA — Aramark has announced plans to use only liquid egg products from cage-free sources by 2020.

The Philadelphia-based foodservice contractor said it will work with suppliers over the next five years to make the transition. The time frame is designed to allow the egg industry to make more such products available.

Aramark says it already purchases virtually all of its shell eggs from cage-free sources and plans to switch completely to cage-free suppliers by the end of 2015.

The cage-free program is part of a more comprehensive animal welfare policy the company is developing in cooperation with the Humane Society of the United States. Company officials indicated the policy will be released within the next few days and will address the treatment of animals in meat, egg and dairy production.
