Aramark was deemed responsible for an incident in which a University of Chicago student found a screw in her food while dining at a school cafeteria earlier this month, reports The Chicago Maroon.
An investigation conducted by UChicago Dining found that the screw had loosened from a brush used to clean the grill and then became attached to chicken in the serving pan.
Dining officials told The Maroon they have started retraining foodservice staff on “protocol for responding to foodservice concerns,” and making sure that all incidents are logged and tracked.
Aramark responded to the incident with plans to maintain a safer, cleaner environment, The Chicago Maroon reports.
“We take all customer concerns about food quality very seriously and have ongoing, rigorous training and quality assurance processes to ensure we meet very high standards,” the vendor said in a statement. “[Our] managers and cooks will be vigilant in maintaining food safety and preventing incidents such as this one,”
