16 nutrition programs aiming to improve students’ health

School lunch programs that provide locally sourced, organic, humane and nutritious foods are an effective way to ensure that half of what students eat on a daily basis is healthy, according to Food Tank.

Recently, the nonprofit group compiled a list of the top 16 school lunch programs working toward improving students’ health. Baltimore City Public School System took top honors as a result of its Meatless Mondays program and use of a teaching farm, while Berkeley Unified School District in California came in second for its commitment to nutritious and locally sourced food.
