We don’t allow residents to tip our employees, so the residents started an Employee Appreciation Fund. In Masonic Village, there are three restaurants and three cafés, and the menus have printed: “No tipping required. Any tips will be donated to the Employee Appreciation Fund.” Anywhere there is high traffic of residents, a contribution box is put out. The money is used to purchase gift cards. Once a year resident volunteers will personally hand the gift cards to each hourly employee, thanking them for what they do.
