1. Penn State doubles up on zero-waste events
The college's Food Waste Awareness Week kicked off on March 27 with a screening of the film "Wasted! The Story of Food Waste," produced by celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain and hosted by the Student Farm at Penn State. Senior Olivia Hort told school newspaper The Daily Collegian that the film was chosen "to draw attention to just how much food is wasted locally and globally and the negative impacts it has on our world."
In addition, Food for Thought, a dinner prepared with food that would otherwise be thrown away, is being held March 29. The dinner costs $3 per person and includes speakers, live music and activities to teach attendees more ways to reduce food waste. Penn State partnered with community organization Eco-Action, two local restaurateurs and a number of campus groups to create the event.
