Second Annual Culinary Competition Slated for MenuDirections 2014

Unique format pairs chefs from different institutions in lottery draw.

FoodService Director is gearing up for its second annual culinary competition, scheduled for Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, during MenuDirections 2014 in Charlotte, N.C.

The competition is unique in non-commercial foodservice. Four pairs of chefs—each pair representing a different segment of the industry—are selected by lottery from a list of those attending the conference.

Each team has 75 minutes to prepare an entrée using ingredients selected from a market basket of items.
Last year, teams from colleges, hospitals, B&I and senior living competed for bragging rights and a trip to the 2014 conference. The healthcare team of Brent Lewis, from St. Joseph Hospital, in Tampa, Fla., and Darrick Henry, from Baylor Orthopedic & Spine Hospital, in Arlington, Texas, were judged to be the best.

Do you have what it takes to represent your market sector in this fun, but challenging, competition? Then register today for MenuDirections and then send an email to Editorial Director Paul King, at pking@cspnet.com to enter the lottery. In addition to showing off your skills, you’ll get 2 ½ days of educational sessions designed to help you make your menus the best they can be.
